Nacon came to us to create the ident for the return of Robin Hood in fantasy sci-fi game, Gangs of Sherwood! From an initial selection moodboard references, we settled on a medieval style with a diesel punk, science/fantasy twist. We explored the use of arrows piercing the lettering, creative use of negative space, and combinations of bold, gothic lettering sprinkled with light erosion, as well as different layouts of the lettering, as we established the logo “block.” Texturing focused on ageing attached to the logo, the use of rust and dirt and rivets, as well as bolstering the outline to aid readability. The final animation included shiny surface effects, burning embers, and replicating the style of a shooting arrow shooting on the underline to create a unique and on-brand ident with impact.
